Counselling for People with Autism in York
Autism Counselling in York
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterised by a variety of social, communication, and sensory processing challenges.
Everyone on the spectrum experiences autism differently, with unique strengths and areas of difficulty that can vary from person to person.
At York Therapy Clinic, we provide specialist counselling for those with autism, recognising the distinct needs and strengths of each individual.
Our team of psychologists, counsellors and therapists provide a safe and supportive environment, where you can explore your experiences and develop effective coping mechanisms to help you manage your emotions and function better in day to day life.
Please note, we do not offer Autism assessments at this time, though do offer skilled counsellors and therapists that can help deal with the challenges that Autism can bring.
How Counselling Can Help People with Autism and ASD
Our autism counselling in York can help you address difficulties both associated with, and separate from, your difficulties with autism while also taking into account the specific adaptations to therapy that might be needed to help you process your difficulties better.
Specifically, at York Therapy Clinic, we can help with:
- Improved Self-Awareness: Gain a deeper understanding of your autism and how it affects your experiences so that you can look after your emotional health better.
- Enhanced Social Skills: Learn strategies and skills for navigating social situations, building relationships and developing friendships.
- Effective Communication: Develop tools to express yourself clearly and understand communication from others to minimise the impact that autism can have.
- Sensory Management: Reduce sensory overload and develop coping mechanisms for managing sensory sensitivities to reduce overwhelm.
- Emotional Regulation: Learn to manage emotions effectively and build resilience so that you can manage your emotional state better.
- Reduced Anxiety & Stress: Address anxiety and develop strategies for coping with stressful situations.
- Improved Executive Functioning: Our Autism counsellors can help you develop skills and adaptations for organisation, planning, and time management.
- Increased Confidence: Build self-esteem and confidence in your abilities so that you function better in social situations and in day to day life.
As people with autism can also experience the same mental health difficulties as other people, such as trauma, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, counselling can also help you overcome these difficulties and function better in everyday life.
