About Adam Watling (Counsellor for York Therapy Clinic)
Adam Watling is one of our empathetic and dedicated counsellors at York Therapy Clinic, offering person-centred counselling for adults. He provides a safe, non-judgmental space for individuals to explore their challenges and work towards personal growth.
With a special interest in family dynamics, trauma, abuse (including narcissistic abuse), addiction, identity, and neurodiversity, Adam supports clients navigating a wide range of difficulties.
Adam also works with other issues, include depression, anxiety, emotional abuse, ADHD, autism, later-life neurodiversity diagnoses, and health anxiety. He also offers LGBTQ+ counselling, and has a passion for fostering self-esteem and self-empowerment.

As a person-centred counsellor, Adam’s approach is rooted in understanding and collaboration. He values the uniqueness of each client’s journey, working alongside them to explore identity, autonomy, and self-esteem, and fostering a sense of empowerment and self-discovery so that client’s can overcome their difficulties.

Experienced Counsellor in York
Adam has gained invaluable experience through a diverse range of counselling settings. He completed a 120-hour placement in an NHS GP practice immediately after qualifying, working with clients seeking support for various issues, and has since continued to develop his counselling skills.
In addition to NHS counselling, Adam has also spent time within private practice, providing both face-to-face and online counselling. Here, he has spent time focusing on creating meaningful connections and supporting lasting change, as well as helping people overcome a range of problems (including depression, anxiety, counselling for low self-esteem, LGBTQ+ specific counselling, and other related difficulties).
Adam’s ongoing professional development reflects his dedication to delivering the highest standard of care.
Personal Journey to Counselling
Adam’s journey into counselling was profoundly influenced by his innate compassion for others, and ability to truly empathise. He has always been drawn to supporting individuals in their time of need, offering a listening ear and a comforting presence.
His own transformative experience with counselling played a pivotal role in shaping his career path. Through this, Adam gained valuable insights into his own personal growth and healing, as well as a deep-rooted belief in the transformative potential of the therapeutic relationship.
As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, Adam brings lived experience and understanding to his work, particularly when supporting clients navigating issues related to identity and belonging.

Adam Watling is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Adam offers face-to-face counselling in York, as well as telephone and online counselling using Skype, Facetime, Zoom & WhatsApp Video.
