About Roberta King (Counsellor for York Therapy Clinic)
Roberta King is one of our dedicated Counsellors at York Therapy Clinic, specialising in an humanistic approach to therapy and counselling. She has extensive experience in supporting those with a wide range of issues, including addiction, anxiety, depression, bereavement, and low self-esteem.
As a humanistic counsellor, Roberta works from the basis that everyone has the propensity for change and growth, but they may have lost connection with and confidence in themselves.
She nurtures and encourages people to reconnect with their innate strengths and work towards self-acceptance – which often then leads to the positive change people come to counselling for.
Roberta has a specialist interest in supporting those experiencing addiction, and also offers creative interventions in therapy as an alternative way of expressing and exploring experiences, relationships and emotions.
Experienced Adult Counsellor
Roberta has been a qualified counsellor since 2018, and has spent over 20 years in helping related professions within various settings, including the voluntary sector, the NHS and the criminal justice system.
Her initial counselling training was in the Person-Centred approach, which she has since supplemented with CPD in CBT, EFT, and creative interventions in therapy.
After spending approximately 15 years working within drug and alcohol services, Roberta has gained a wealth of knowledge around addiction. In addition to this, she has a sound knowledge of neurodiversity and always aims to work in a neuro-inclusive way.
