About Helen Fairburn (Counsellor for York Therapy Clinic)

Helen Fairburn is one of our compassionate and experienced counsellors at York Therapy Clinic, providing individual counselling for adults and young people aged 16 and over.

With over a decade of experience in the mental health sector, Helen offers an empathetic and inclusive approach to help clients navigate a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, low mood, self-esteem, relational dynamics, and identity concerns.

Helen also has experience in supporting individuals experiencing neurodiversity and those in the LGBTQ+ communities, offering a safe and understanding environment for people to explore their unique experiences and needs.

Humanistic & Integrative Counselling York

As a Humanistic-Integrative counsellor, Helen places the individuality of her clients at the core of her practice.

She combines the person-centred approach with elements of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to facilitate both deep self-reflection and actionable solutions for personal growth.

Additionally, Helen’s experience extends to safeguarding and mental health first aid reflect her commitment to providing holistic care.

Her tailored approach incorporates a range of therapeutic techniques to best support each client’s preferences and goals, empowering them to create meaningful and positive change in their lives.

Experienced Counsellor in York

Helen has 10 years’ experience working within the mental health charity sector in York, providing 1:1 counselling sessions and managing a range of therapeutic services for young people and adults.

She has also supported university students with their mental health and has gained vast experience working with clients facing a variety of issues, from relational and self-worth challenges to anxiety and depression.

Her work is underpinned by her commitment to ongoing professional development and advanced training, ensuring she remains at the forefront of her field.

Helen holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, awarded by York St John University in 2016. 

Her qualifications also include Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST), Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Level 3 Safeguarding Certification, and numerous CPD courses in various therapeutic approaches.

Personal Journey to Counselling

Helen’s path to counselling was inspired by her desire to help others grow and live fulfilling lives.

After beginning her career in the Civil Service, she realised she was drawn to supporting others on a deeper level which motivated Helen to embark on her counselling journey.

With a genuine warmth and an innate ability to connect with people, she finds joy in building strong therapeutic relationships and empowering clients to achieve meaningful changes in their lives.

Helen is proud to be a York lass born and bred, having lived in the city all her life. Outside of work, her favourite things to do are spending quality time with family and friends, and absorbing the therapeutic qualities of the Yorkshire countryside and coastline.

Registered with Professional Bodies

Helen Fairburn (Counsellor) is registered with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).

Helen offers face-to-face counselling in York, and telephone and online counselling using Skype, Facetime, Zoom & WhatsApp Video for York Therapy Clinic.
