About Sally Minskip (Counsellor for York Therapy Clinic)

Sally is one of our dedicated counsellors at York Therapy Clinic, offering individual counselling for adults, as well as couples counselling and mother/daughter counselling for those looking to overcome a variety of challenges.

With a particular focus on helping those dealing with anxiety (particularly phobias), stress, burnout, and depression, Sally places a person-centred approach at the heart of her counselling sessions, putting the individual needs of her clients first and foremost.

She also has extensive experience of providing counselling for people with ADHD and autism counselling in York.

As an experienced integrative therapist, Sally offers a wide range of therapeutic modalities as part of her counselling in York, including elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), creative work, psychodynamic psychotherapy, Compassion Focused therapy (CFT), and mindfulness therapy.

Sally’s focus is aimed at helping people overcome difficulties with anxiety counselling, loss of role, depression, self-confidence problems, and overcoming phobias.   She also works with personal growth, helping people learn new strategies to manage life’s challenges.

Her commitment to professional development is demonstrated by her ongoing training, including a Level 5 Certificate in CBT and specialised CPD in areas such as suicide prevention, working with domestic violence survivors, and supporting substance misuse recovery.

Sally’s training has taught her to use techniques from a variety of therapies, including person-centred counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and approaches such as psychotherapy and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

Her varied experience and training in these areas allow her to create a tailored approach for each client so that they can work through their difficulties as readily as possible.

Experienced Counsellor in York

Sally’s counselling practice is deeply informed by her extensive experience working with a diverse range of clients.

She has completed placements with Mainstay UK, a local mental health charity, and with North Yorkshire Social Services, supporting parents and care leavers in challenging circumstances.

Through these roles, Sally gained experience in narrative therapy, as well as in working with neurodivergent clients, such as those with ADHD and Autism.

Currently, Sally also volunteers at York Mind, where she provides mental health support while continuing to deepen her skills and knowledge.

Sally’s professional background also includes experience in recruitment and HR, where she developed a natural ability to connect with people and create an environment that fosters openness and authenticity.

Personal Experience & Journey to Counselling

Sally’s path to counselling was shaped by her personal experiences and a desire to make a positive impact.

Growing up in an area affected by poverty, and witnessing the impact th challenges that mental health struggles can bring, inspired her to help others.

Sally’s lived experience of overcoming agoraphobia and anxiety further enriches her empathetic understanding of her clients’ journeys, as well as helping her to develop effective ways of helping her clients overcome their problems.

Registered with Professional Bodies

Sally Minskip (Counsellor) is registered with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and the NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society).

Sally offers face-to-face counselling in York, as well as telephone and online counselling using Skype, Facetime, Zoom & WhatsApp Video for York Therapy Clinic. Other methods are also available.
