About Lucy Rymer (Child Psychologist for York Therapy Clinic)

Lucy Rymer is our dedicated Child Psychologist at York Therapy Clinic, offering expert psychological support for children and adolescents facing a variety of emotional and psychological challenges.

With extensive experience in both NHS and private settings, Lucy provides tailored therapeutic interventions to help individuals struggling with anxiety, depression and low mood, trauma, self-harm, and difficulties associated with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD.

She also works with adults managing trauma-related difficulties, anxiety disorders (including OCD, health anxiety, panic disorder, and phobias), depression, and emotional regulation challenges.

Lucy’s therapeutic approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while also drawing upon Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to provide personalised treatment plans that work for each client.

Lucy holds a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from York St John University and has pursued further specialist training, including a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT, and is currently studying for a Certificate in Enhanced CBT for Psychological Trauma & Personality Development.

In addition to her clinical work, Lucy has contributed to research in the field of self-harm and emotion regulation, with her study published in the Journal of Mental Health.

Her commitment to both research and clinical practice ensures that she provides evidence-based, high-quality psychological support to her clients.

Passion for Supporting Change

Lucy has always been deeply interested in people, their relationships, and their personal experiences. Her passion for psychology grew through academic study and personal experiences, leading her to pursue a career dedicated to helping individuals improve their emotional well-being and quality of life.

She believes in providing a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their difficulties, develop self-understanding, and make meaningful changes.

Beyond her clinical work, Lucy enjoys practicing mindfulness and yoga, running, gardening, and long countryside walks with her dog, Dilly. She values the importance of well-being practices in her own life and integrates this philosophy into her therapeutic approach.
