About Jemma Austin (CBT & EMDR Therapist for York Therapy Clinic)
Jemma has 20 years of experience working in mental health, delivering evidence-based Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR for a wide range of problems.
In particular, Jemma specialises in working with a range of problems including: Anxiety disorders, (such as OCD, Panic, GAD, and Health Anxiety), Depression, Trauma and PTSD, Phobias, Low self-esteem, and Life transition difficulties.
She also provides EMDR and CBT Therapy online, enabling her to reach more people and help them overcome their difficulties.
CBT and EMDR Therapy York
Jemma has worked in a range of different settings: NHS, The Retreat (York), BUPA, Mindler (Formerly IESO) and privately.
Jemma is highly skilled in assessment, formulation, and therapeutic intervention, working with diverse client groups. She has experience in working with First Responders, particularly the Police and Fire Service, to help them work through the trauma and difficulties they may have experienced on the job.
Alongside her therapeutic strenght, Jemma has strong interpersonal and relational skills that support the development of effective therapeutic alliances and meaningful change so that clients can feel.
Jemma integrates approaches from other therapies, as well as her specialism in CBT and EMDR, to provide the best quality care available.
Journey into Counselling
Jemma had always been interested in Psychology which led to her degree.
From there, she was initially drawn to Forensic Psychology, working in the Prison Service as a Psychology Assistant and then pursuing training within Primary Care Mental Health, working with mild to moderate mental health difficulties within a primary care (IAPT) setting.
Jemma has always valued and enjoyed helping people through difficult times, helping them be the best version of themselves and improve their lives.
She has a special interest in Autism and Mental Health, especially as a parent to two neurodivergent children.
Jemma continues to develop her knowledge and skills in these areas to be able to better support the needs of autistic adults in accessing mental health support, as well as being an extremely effective therapist for those that need help in other areas of life.
