About Charlotte Harper (Child Counsellor for York Therapy Clinic)
Charlotte Harper (Child Counsellor) works with children and young people from age 5 to 17 at York Therapy Clinic to help them work through difficulties they may be experiencing in earlier stages of life.
As well as talk-based therapy and counselling, Charlotte also provides play based interventions for younger children, utilising the idea that play is a young child’s most expressive way of communicating their feelings so that she can help them work through whatever difficulties they may be facing.
Charlotte works with children experiencing a range of different issues, including anxiety, OCD, low self-esteem, low mood or depression, self-harm, bullying, trauma and difficulties with school refusal.
She also has a particular specialism in working with disordered eating in children.
Child Counselling York
Charlotte has worked with children within different settings since 2019 as a Youth Worker for North Yorkshire Youth, and a Youth Mentor with York Council.
She also worked within a children’s hospice for 4 years, keeping the wellbeing and needs of children and their families front and centre.
In May 2026, Charlotte completed her advanced Level 5 Diploma in Children and Young people Counselling. She also works in a Secondary School half a day a week, working with teenagers therapeutically to extend her reach of how she can help children with their difficulties.
Journey into Counselling
Charlotte always worked for charities that have a child focused cause. She wanted to gain her counselling qualifications so that she could support those beneficiaries directly.
Charlotte found that becoming a parent herself made her realise the importance of positive mental health for young people and helped her recognise her own natural strength in building relationships with a younger age group.
Consequently, Charlotte is a highly effective and empathic counsellor who is able to work with children in a way that connects with them, and allows them to work through their difficulties in a safe and effective way,
