About Charlotte Harper (Counsellor for York Therapy Clinic)
Charlotte Harper works with children and young people from age 5 to 17. For younger clients she utilises play based interventions, utilising the idea that play is a child’s language and the most developmentally appropriate way to support them to communicate their experiences.
Charlotte works with clients experiencing an array of different issues, including anxiety, OCD, low self-esteem, low mood, risky behaviours and self-harm, as well as having a particular specialism in disordered eating.
Child Counselling York
Charlotte has worked with children within different settings since 2019 as a Youth Worker for North Yorkshire Youth (Feb 2019 – Feb 2021), and a Youth Mentor with York Council (Feb – April 2019). She also worked within a children’s hospice from October 2022 – January 2026, whilst not care based, her role was family focused, keeping the wellbeing and needs of children and their families front and centre.
Currently undertaking a Level 5 Diploma in Children and Young people Counselling with Place2Be, Charlotte works in a Secondary School half a day a week, working with teenagers therapeutically. This course is expected to end in May 2026.
On her eating disorder work, Charlotte says, “My personal experience with an eating disorder led me to gain additional training in this field so that I could better support clients. I’ve been marketing with this specialism for a year now and have created multiple resources to support families with a child or loved one experiencing an eating disorder.”
Journey into Counselling
Charlotte always worked for charities that have a child focused cause. She wanted to gain her counselling qualifications so that she could support those beneficiaries directly. “Becoming a parent myself has also made me realise the importance of positive mental health for young people and helped me recognise my own natural strength in building relationships with a younger age group.”
