About Kate Roberts (Senior Counsellor for York Therapy Clinic)
Kate Roberts is a relational and trauma-informed counsellor and psychotherapist at York Therapy Clinic, working with adults and older adolescents across a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
She offers a thoughtful, integrative approach to therapy, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic psychotherapy and body-aware perspectives to help clients understand how past experiences can shape present feelings, relationships, and patterns of self-protection.
Kate works with anxiety, low mood, trauma, stress, grief and loss, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, attachment wounds, identity issues, and long-standing relational or emotional patterns.
Integrative Counselling York
Kate’s approach to counselling is attachment-informed and nervous-system aware, with attention to how early relational experience can continue to shape emotions, identity, and the body well into adult life.
Where it feels appropriate and helpful, she gently incorporates embodied awareness into talking therapy, inviting clients to notice breath, posture, tension, grounding, and emotional responses in the body.
This body-aware dimension reflects her ongoing specialist training in Body Psychotherapy, and her wider interest in the relationship between the mind, the nervous system, and lived experience.
Kate’s work is grounded in the belief that the therapeutic relationship itself is a powerful space for healing, self-awareness, and lasting change.
Experience & Background
Kate has experience in both private practice and community counselling settings, supporting adults and young people with counselling for anxiety, depression, trauma, adult attachment difficulties, relationship issues, neurodiversity, grief, low self-worth, and complex emotional experiences.
Her work with young people has included relational and supportive counselling for clients affected by attachment difficulties, family stress, trauma histories, low mood, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm.
She has also supported carers and families living with the effects of mental health difficulties and addiction, including through previous work with MIND Jersey’s Carer Support Service.
Before retraining as a psychotherapist, Kate spent many years working in public sector where her work involved safeguarding, advocacy, law, environmental regulation, and support for vulnerable individuals and communities.
Path to Counselling & Psychotherapy
Kate has long been interested in how people adapt to difficult experiences and relationships, and in how early relational patterns can continue to shape our emotions, identity, the body, and later connections with others.
Psychotherapy felt like a natural way to work carefully and collaboratively with those patterns, in a space where clients can feel genuinely heard and supported.
Alongside her clinical work, Kate has a strong interest in the connection between emotional wellbeing, nature, and creativity.
Outside of the therapy room, she enjoys trail running, walking, cycling, and spending time outdoors, which she finds both grounding and restorative.
