Dr. Luke Todd (Child & Adult Psychologist)
Luke works with adolescents (over 14 years old) and adults experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
His core areas of work include self-esteem, depression, and anxiety-related difficulties (Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), Social anxiety, Panic attacks, Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), Specific phobias and fears).
Luke also supports people experiencing health-related anxiety and distress, including adjustment to health conditions, diagnoses, and medical treatments. Other problems he works with include chronic pain, work-related stress and burnout.
As a Counselling Psychologist, Luke offers a range of evidence-based talking therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic therapy.
He works collaboratively with his clients, integrating and adapting therapy to their needs, goals, and pace, with an emphasis on creating a safe, reflective, and supportive space.
Adult and Adolescent Counselling York
Luke has spent four years working in private practice, alongside two and a half years in the NHS.
His NHS experience supporting people with a range of problems includes:
• Six months working with the mental health challenges that come with physical problems (including cancer), at Hartlepool NHS services.
• Two and a half years at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, working with people living with chronic pain and providing psychology and therapy for long term health conditions.
• Counselling and therapy for adults and young people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem and generalised anxiety (GAD).
• Mental health support for clients and their families affected by difficulties relating to all of the above.
In addition to his NHS work, Luke has worked therapeutically with people across the lifespan and from many walks of life, helping people to overcome their difficulties and move forward with their lives.
Journey into Therapy and Counselling
Luke was drawn to this profession through his own interest in therapy and psychology when he was younger, leading into him training to become a highly effective Psychologist.
Luke’s aim is to help people organise their thoughts and lives in a way that allows them to reset their compass, reconnect with themselves, and feel ready to paint something new so that they can move forward in life and become unstuck from their difficulties.
Outside of work, Luke enjoys a variety of interests. With a love of baking, it’s one of his favourite ways to decompress. Carrot cake is a particular passion of Luke’s, alongside brownies and experimenting with making the best possible cookies.
He also enjoy board games and card games, and connecting with the people around him.
