About Clare Forsyth (Therapist for York Therapy Clinic)

Clare Forsyth is one of our experienced therapists at York Therapy Clinic, offering psychosexual and relationship therapy alongside integrative counselling to individuals and couples.

With a warm and thoughtful approach, Clare creates a safe, non-judgmental space in which clients can explore the most personal aspects of their lives, relationships, and sense of self.

Clare specialises in psychosexual therapy, supporting clients with a wide range of concerns including lack of desire, erection difficulties, ejaculatory problems, vaginismus, pain during sex, orgasm difficulties, compulsive sexual behaviours, and sexual trauma. She also works with those navigating asexuality, celibacy, kink and BDSM, polyamory and non-monogamy, affairs, sex and ageing, and the impact of menopause on intimacy.

In addition to her psychosexual work, Clare offers couples therapy for intimacy issues, communication difficulties, and family challenges, as well as individual therapy for anger management and the concerns of adult survivors of sexual abuse.

Psychosexual Therapist York

Clare works integratively, with a particular focus on psychodynamic approaches informed by Transactional Analysis and attachment theory, all held within a neuroscience-informed framework.

She weaves body awareness and mindfulness into her practice and frequently draws on creative approaches, including the use of sand tray in sessions.

This flexible, responsive way of working allows Clare to meet each client where they are, tailoring therapy to individual needs rather than applying a fixed model.

Experience and Background

Clare brings a breadth of experience across community, charitable, and clinical settings. She has worked for a charity delivering counselling to survivors of serious crime, referred via the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioners and IDAS, and has supported clients through National Lottery funded services.

During her work with Survive in Northallerton, Clare worked with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual trauma, including complex trauma, non-recent sexual abuse, and serious assault.

More recently, Clare has spent the past two years helping to build a new brief therapy service in Scarborough, supporting clients referred via GP surgeries, Talking Therapies, and IAPT, as well as self-referrals across a wide range of presentations. She has been actively involved in safeguarding throughout this time.

Clare has a particular interest in working with armed forces veterans and their families, and with neurodivergent individuals. She has direct personal experience of both, which informs the depth of understanding she brings to this work.

Her experience in psychosexual and relationship therapy spans individuals and couples presenting with relationship dissatisfaction, communication difficulties, neurodivergence in one or both partners, birth trauma, lack of desire, asexuality, gender questioning, fetish, and more.

Personal Background & Path to Therapy

Clare’s route into the profession came later in life, shaped by a curiosity about people and the experiences that form us. Having lived in Hong Kong as a child and Egypt as an adult, she developed a deep interest in culture and the varied ways in which individual histories are woven together.

Following her own experience of divorce, Clare found that friends naturally turned to her for support. Conscious of not projecting her own story onto theirs, she began exploring counselling as a career and has found it to be a thoroughly rewarding path.

As her practice developed, clients increasingly brought relationship difficulties into the room. This, combined with her commitment to supporting survivors of sexual trauma, led her to pursue specialist training in psychosexual and relationship therapy. She believes that speaking with people about the most vulnerable and intimate aspects of themselves is a genuine privilege.

Outside of her professional life, Clare enjoys walking in the North Yorkshire Moors, travelling, and exploring new restaurants and food experiences.
